As I’m sure you’re well aware, Netflix has been promoting and trying to justify the film “Cuties” which sexualizes young pre-teen girls.
Over the past week, hundreds of thousands if not millions of people have been canceling their Netflix subscriptions in light of the companies refusal to remove this movie. You may have even seen the hashtag #CancelNetflix trending on social media.
Instead of removing the film from the platform, they have actually defended the film.
Netflix is defending its French film “Cuties” after a considerable backlash on social media, arguing it is a “social commentary against the sexualization of young children.”
“‘Cuties’ is a social commentary against the sexualization of young children,” a Netflix spokesperson said in a Friday statement as the “CancelNetflix” hashtag trended to the top of Twitter on Thursday.
Critics have argued that the film sexualizes children. Netflix issued an apology last month for promotional material for “Cuties,” saying it was “deeply sorry for the inappropriate artwork” which it said was “not representative” of the film.
Everyone hates this film and it’s clear. In the image below you’ll see that 1.6 million people have disliked the trailer for the movie on Netflix’s Youtube account. That number has actually gone up and at the time of this writing, it sits at just shy of 2 million.
There are also almost 200,000 comments on the trailer video filled with people expressing their disgust and reprimanding them for sexualizing children.

Things might get worse for Netflix. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) is urging the Department of Justice to launch an investigation into Netflix’s involvement with the movie.
“The film routinely fetishizes and sexualizes these pre-adolescent girls as they perform dances simulating sexual conduct in revealing clothing, including at least one scene with partial child nudity. These scenes in and of themselves are harmful. And it is likely that the filming of this movie created even more explicit and abusive scenes, and that pedophiles across the world in the future will manipulate and imitate this film in abusive ways,” Cruz wrote to Attorney General William Barr.
The disgust over the movie is bipartisan. Rep. Tulsi Gabbard (D-HI) also blasted “Cuties.”
“@netflix child porn ‘Cuties’ will certainly whet the appetite of pedophiles & help fuel the child sex trafficking trade. 1 in 4 victims of trafficking are children. It happened to my friend’s 13-year-old daughter. Netflix, you are now complicit. #CancelNetflix,” Gabbard wrote on Twitter.
