White House Confirms Embarrassing Leak by Secretary of Defense Hegseth

The White House confirmed Monday that President Trump’s national security team accidentally leaked war plans in a group chat.

The Atlantic’s editor-in-chief, Jeffrey Goldberg, said he was mistakenly added to a Signal chat used by top officials. The chat, titled “Houthi PC small group,” included names like Pete Hegseth, Marco Rubio, Mike Waltz, Tulsi Gabbard, and J.D. Vance.

Goldberg said the mistake happened when National Security Adviser Waltz added him by accident. In the chat, Hegseth shared a “TEAM UPDATE” about bombing the Houthis.

“At 11:44 a.m., the account labeled ‘Pete Hegseth’ posted in Signal a ‘TEAM UPDATE,’” Goldberg wrote. “I will not quote from this update… The information… could conceivably have been used to harm American military and intelligence personnel.”

He said the post revealed exact strike plans, including targets, weapons, and timing. It also mentioned that bombs would hit Yemen by 1:45 p.m. eastern.

“So I waited in my car in a supermarket parking lot,” Goldberg wrote. “At about 1:55, I checked X and searched Yemen. Explosions were then being heard across Sanaa, the capital city.”

National Security Council spokesperson Brian Hughes confirmed the group chat leak and said it was under investigation. “The thread is a demonstration of the deep and thoughtful policy coordination between senior officials,” Hughes told the Caller.

Trump claimed he hadn’t heard of it. “I don’t know anything about it, I’m not a big fan of The Atlantic … you’re saying that they had what?” he asked. “You’re telling me about it for the first time,” he added.
