“The View” co-hosts Ana Navarro and Sunny Hostin had strong words for Black artists like Nelly and Snoop Dogg who performed at President Donald Trump’s inauguration festivities.
Before Trump’s inauguration on Monday, his supporters hosted celebrations in Washington, D.C. One event, the Crypto Ball, featured Snoop Dogg and was organized by incoming White House “Crypto Czar” David Sacks.
Navarro called out Snoop for his past comments. “The thing that really, I think, was spotlighting Snoop is because of the things that Snoop Dogg said 10 days before the [Trump] inaugural in 2017,” she said. “If you opposed and stood up against Trump in 2017, but you were there now… Donald Trump has not changed. You’ve changed.”
Back in 2017, Snoop had shared a video threatening to “roast the f—k” out of any “Uncle Tom a— n—a” performing for Trump. He even created a video mocking an assassination of Trump, linking “make America great again” to segregation-era ideals.
Hostin highlighted comments from former Clinton aide Keith Boykin, who criticized artists performing for Trump. Boykin argued Trump had “attacked Black people” and claimed performers like Nelly and Snoop disrespected their communities by participating.
Hostin supported Boykin’s stance. “This is who Donald Trump is,” she said, emphasizing the need to remember Trump’s history.
Not everyone agreed. Co-host Alyssa Farah Griffin defended the performers, saying it was unfair to attack them for participating.
“I don’t come for the artists,” she said. “People see it as part of American tradition. They can clarify their views on Trump if needed. But if you want to boycott Trump, go to the politicians, not the artists.”
The discussion revealed deep divisions over the role of performers in political events and how their choices reflect on larger societal issues.
