A Pennsylvania man was arrested over the weekend as he tried to ruin the Fourth of July for his neighbor, according to a police report.
The 51-year-old man was accused of threatening his neighbor with a machete after he continued to hear fireworks in his neighborhood.
But here’s the kicker, the man with the machete is the buffoon who actually called the police and told them that he would take care of the problem himself!
Amid widespread anger over fireworks abuse in the Lehigh Valley and other areas, some people are taking matters into their own hands, police say.
Late Saturday night, a Hanover Township, Northampton County, man threatened neighbors with a machete to try to get them to stop setting off fireworks, police said.
In Schuylkill County, a woman fired a shotgun in anger, while another was arrested after she confronted her neighbors with a long gun, police said.
Francis Coleman, 51, of the 4000 block of Maria Lane was charged with terroristic threats, simple assault, two counts of disorderly conduct, and harassment. He was arraigned and released on $5,000 bail.
Colonial Regional police said it was dispatched around 11:30 p.m. Saturday to Maria Lane for a report of fireworks going off.
The caller, later identified as Coleman, told the dispatcher that if his fireworks complaint wasn’t taken seriously, he would “handle it himself,” police said.
When police arrived, they observed fireworks going off and searched for the individual who was setting them off.
As police searched the area, they were approached by several people who told them about a man with a machete. Police then located the man setting the fireworks off, who said that Coleman approached him, removed the machete from its sheath and argued with him with the machete in his hand.
Look, I know fireworks may not be the thing you want to hear at night…all night, but it’s not like it’s every day and this is supposed to be a free country. Part of freedom is putting up with other people.
