Lil Wayne opened up about a wild day with Donald Trump in a Rolling Stone interview on April 17.
The rapper recalled an off-the-cuff photo with Trump back in October 2020. It wasn’t your average meet-and-greet. Wayne said Trump was “an asshole” of a jokester who kept him laughing nonstop.
“Ain’t take nothing serious,” Wayne said. “Literally in there saying sh*t like, ‘What do we have to do again? Sh*t, I forgot.’”
Before Trump showed up, Jared Kushner greeted him. Wayne had no clue who Kushner was but soon found out he was a fan. Kushner even told him he crammed for exams while listening to Wayne’s music.
“He was like, ‘I’m not about to watch my hero go to jail for this,’” Wayne said. The charges stemmed from a 2019 raid where authorities found a loaded gold-plated handgun on Wayne’s private jet.
He pleaded guilty in December 2020. Trump pardoned him a month later, right before leaving office.
Wayne said he watched Trump and his lawyer Bradford Cohen—who was once on “The Apprentice”—joking around like old buddies. That’s when the idea of a photo popped up.
“There was some people in there like, ‘Y’all should take a picture.’ He didn’t even ask for a picture,” Wayne said. Trump joked about it too: “These motherf***ers asking me for f***ing pictures all f***ing day, man. Can we please?”
Critics came for Wayne after the photo surfaced. But he shrugged it off. “I don’t care about no backlash for nothing I do,” he said. “My Mama woulda been mad if I ain’t smile.”
Asked why he didn’t endorse Trump later on, Wayne kept it real. “You probably don’t want that… I can tell you who won the last game, but I can’t really … you know what I mean?”
