Whoopi Goldberg Gives Hilarious Reason Why She ‘Can’t Afford’ to Retire

Whoopi Goldberg is shutting down any talk of retirement from The View.

In a new interview with Entertainment Tonight on September 9, the 69-year-old star said she has no plans to step away from the daytime talk show, and her answer was as blunt as ever.

“I’ve gotta keep paying those bills, baby!” Goldberg joked when asked if she’s thought about calling it quits. While she admitted she has considered slowing down, she quickly added, “Who can afford to do that?”

The EGOT winner laughed off the idea that her decades-long career might mean she’s ready to settle into retirement. “No, not by now. Not yet,” she said.

Goldberg has been a fixture on The View since 2007, when she replaced Rosie O’Donnell as co-host and moderator. The long-running series just kicked off its 29th season on September 8.

The actress and comedian has been married three times — first to Alvin Martin, with whom she shares her daughter Alexandrea, 52, then to cinematographer David Claessen, and later to Lyle Trachtenberg.

For Goldberg, the formula is simple: keep working, keep moving, and keep laughing — bills and all.
