President-elect Donald Trump told NBC’s “Meet the Press” on Sunday that his inaugural address would focus on unity. He shared a message for Americans who didn’t support him on Election Day.
“I’m going to treat you every bit as well as I have treated the greatest MAGA supporters,” Trump said. He wanted everyone to know they’d be treated fairly, regardless of how they voted.
Trump sat down with NBC’s Kristen Welker for his first big interview since the election. Welker had interviewed him earlier in September 2023 when she took over as host from Chuck Todd.
“These people are so dedicated to making America great again. It’s very simple,” Trump said. “We’ll treat everybody good. We want success for our country, we want safety for our country.”
He stressed the need to address crime and said the U.S. was facing serious threats. Improving the country’s reputation was also a priority for him.
“We have to get the criminals out of our country,” Trump said firmly. “People need to buy a loaf of bread without fearing for their lives. That’s going to happen. I love you all, and we’re going to work together. Success will bring us together.”
Trump also revealed his inaugural address would center on unity. “Success brings unity,” he explained. “We’ll talk about making our country safe and keeping people who shouldn’t be here out. It’s about bringing us together.”
After his win, Trump met with some of his biggest media critics, MSNBC hosts Mika Brzezinski and Joe Scarborough. He recently discussed the importance of a free press with Fox News Digital.
“To Make America Great Again, we need a free, fair, and open media,” Trump said. He explained that Scarborough had requested a meeting, and they sat down at Mar-a-Lago.
The meeting, according to Trump, was “extremely cordial.” “Many things were discussed,” he shared. “It’s a shame it didn’t happen earlier, but I appreciated the open communication.”
