Sen. Hawley Proposes Bill to Strip Woke Disney of Copyright Privileges

Senator Josh Hawley is coming in hot with his sights set on the woke corporation of Walt Disney Co. and its special copyright privileges. He introduced a bill to strip them of those privileges, which allow them to control intellectual property that could include Donald Duck and Mickey Mouse.

Breitbart reports that the bill, called Copyright Clause Restoration Act, will " limit new copyright protections to 56 years and make the change retroactive for major corporations like Disney that have been granted unusually long copyright monopolies."

“The age of Republican handouts to Big Business is over,” Hawley said while announcing the bill on Tuesday. “Thanks to special copyright protections from Congress, woke corporations like Disney have earned billions while increasingly pandering to woke activists. It’s time to take away Disney’s special privileges and open up a new era of creativity and innovation.”

He also tweeted, that "there's no reason Disney or any other woke corporation should keep getting special favors from government."

Hawley added, "End the handouts now."

Disney continues to make a fortune from its stable of animated characters because Congress has allowed the company to keep renewing copyrights on decades-old intellectual property that would normally have passed into the public domain by now.

In some cases, Disney has been granted copyright protections for up to 120 years, far longer than the original maximum of 28 years, according to Hawley’s office.

The legislation represents the latest counter-offensive to Disney after CEO Bob Chapek caved to a small group of radicalized, woke employees and picked a fight with Florida over the state’s Parental Rights in Education law, which bars the teaching of sexual identity and gender theory to kids in kindergarten through third grade.

Ending their privileges could be catastrophic for the company's stronghold on characters. The woke won't like this one bit! Perhaps next time they will think twice before getting involved in politics.
