An insane story about chicken wings that WGN first reported over a year ago now has an update.
A south suburban school worker has admitted to stealing $1.5 million worth of food, mostly chicken wings.
Vera Liddell, who was the food service director for Harvey School District 152, has pled guilty.
Cook County prosecutors said she stole huge amounts of food intended for students learning remotely during the pandemic.
Liddell entered a guilty plea on Friday, according to the Cook County State’s Attorney. She has been sentenced to 9 years in prison.
Court records reveal she ordered over 11,000 cases of chicken wings from the school district’s food provider. Liddell then picked them up in a district cargo van.
The scheme was discovered by the district’s business manager during a routine audit.
