HomeNews WireProfessor Writes A Ferocious Op-Ed After Virginia Moves Forward in Gun Confiscation Attempt Editor December 30, 2019 The people of Virginia have been putting up a heck of a fight against Virginia Governor Ralph Northam and the Virginia General Assembly. They are trying to sign a bill that attacks the law-abiding citizens of Virginia and their Second Amendment rights. From the very moment that Virginia’s state house flipped to Democratic control, the fight began. Some of the laws consist of "red flag laws" as well as a ban on “assault” rifles and high capacity magazines illegal, which is absolutely an infringement. Walter Williams, who is an economics professor at George Mason University wrote a masterful piece for Fox News, Firearm owners in the state have joined with sheriffs to form Second Amendment sanctuary counties. That means local authorities will be required to protect Second Amendment rights in the face of any attempt by Virginia’s General Assembly to abrogate those rights. Eighty-six counties – over 90 percent – in the Virginia commonwealth have adopted Second Amendment sanctuary resolutions. Spotsylvania County’s board of supervisors voted unanimously to approve a resolution declaring that county police will not enforce state-level gun laws that violate Second Amendment rights. However, Virginia Attorney General Mark Herring said such resolutions can’t overturn state laws. “It is my opinion that these resolutions have no legal effect,” Herring said in a letter issued Friday. “It is my further opinion that localities and local constitutional officers cannot nullify state laws and must comply with gun violence prevention measures that the General Assembly may enact.” Page County Sheriff Chad Cubbage said: “Be it be known that the Page sheriff hereby declares Page County, Virginia, as a ‘Second Amendment Sanctuary,’ and that the Page County sheriff hereby declares its intent to oppose any infringement on the right of law-abiding citizens to keep and bear arms.” Honestly, the last time I checked, every single county except for one has approved some sort of resolution to defy these tyrannical lawmakers and defend the Second Amendment, protecting the citizens from whatever may come.
