Southeastern Grocers (SEG) announced today that it will officially become The Winn-Dixie Company in early 2026, marking a major transformation centered on Florida — the place where the iconic grocery store brand first began.
The change honors Winn-Dixie’s 100-year legacy while launching a new chapter focused on store modernization, customer experience, and community connection. CEO Anthony Hucker called it “a brand-new 100-year-old company,” highlighting a strategy to grow where the grocer’s roots run deepest.
“For a century, Winn-Dixie has proudly called Florida home,” Hucker said. “As we enter our next century, we’re accelerating growth while staying true to our purpose of feeding and enriching the communities, families, and neighbors who have supported us for generations.”
Dozens of store remodels and new builds are already underway, with designs aimed at creating warm, neighborhood-style markets tailored to local customers. The company also plans to expand its liquor store portfolio, bring back its Lip Lickin’ Chicken in early 2026, and introduce new conveniences such as third-party delivery and in-store return kiosks.
As part of its Florida growth strategy, Winn-Dixie will acquire Hitchcock’s Markets in Alachua, Keystone Heights, and Williston. These stores will convert to Winn-Dixie beginning in late 2025. The new Williston location will open first, replacing the existing store nearby and ensuring all associates can continue serving the community. The other two stores are expected to open by summer 2026.
To refocus on its core markets, SEG will transition ownership of most stores outside of Florida, including 32 Winn-Dixie and eight Harveys Supermarket locations across Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana, and Mississippi. Winn-Dixie will, however, maintain a presence in southern Georgia with stores in Brunswick, Folkston, Lake Park, St. Simons Island, and Valdosta.
Store transitions and closings are expected to finish by the end of 2025, with all changes complete by early 2026. Following these updates, The Winn-Dixie Company will operate about 130 grocery stores and 140 liquor stores across Florida and southern Georgia.
Hucker praised associates and communities for their support, emphasizing that the company will ensure each transition is handled “with care, support, and respect.”
“We are profoundly thankful to our associates and customers who have made Winn-Dixie and Harveys part of their lives,” he said. “As we move forward, we’ll honor that loyalty and ensure this transition reflects the gratitude they deserve.”
With bold investments, a sharper focus, and deep Florida roots, The Winn-Dixie Company is stepping confidently into its next century — committed to serving customers, supporting communities, and carrying on its proud legacy as the neighborhood grocer families trust most.
