Former NFL star Adrian Peterson was arrested Sunday morning in Sugar Land, Texas, on charges of driving while intoxicated (DWI) and unlawful carrying of a weapon, according to local reports.
Police confirmed Peterson was taken into custody around 10 a.m. and booked on both charges, though they declined to provide further details, citing an ongoing investigation. Court documents were not yet available as of Sunday afternoon, but jail records confirmed the arrest.
Second DWI Arrest This Year
This is Peterson’s second DWI arrest in 2025. He was previously arrested in Minnesota in April after allegedly leaving a Minnesota Vikings draft party. Authorities said he was driving 83 mph in a 55 mph zone and recorded a blood alcohol level of 0.14%—nearly double the legal limit.
Previous Legal Troubles
Peterson has had several prior run-ins with law enforcement:
2022: Detained after an alleged domestic incident with his wife on a flight to Houston.
2014: Pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor charge after allegedly disciplining his 4-year-old son with a wooden switch.
NFL Career
Peterson played 15 seasons in the NFL across seven teams, though he is best remembered for his dominant years with the Minnesota Vikings, where he became one of the most prolific running backs in league history. Widely expected to be a first-ballot Hall of Famer, Peterson is a native of Palestine, Texas.
At this time, it is unclear if Peterson has been released from custody or when he is due in court.
