Piers Morgan suggested on Monday that ABC’s “The View” should be canceled. His remarks followed the hosts’ constant questioning of what is “wrong” with America after Donald Trump’s victory.
“I don’t like cancel culture,” Morgan wrote in an op-ed for The New York Post. “But since the hosts of ‘The View’ worked so hard to cancel Donald Trump, it’s time they were canceled themselves.”
The show features Whoopi Goldberg, Sunny Hostin, Sara Haines, Joy Behar, Ana Navarro, and Alyssa Farah Griffin. All of them supported Vice President Kamala Harris and often criticize Trump. Notably, Navarro and Griffin identify as Republicans.
“They despise the man who will be president again,” Morgan said. “Their one-sided act won’t work now that he’s been endorsed by the American people.”
The hosts have debated what went wrong for Democrats. Hostin frequently blamed racism, sexism, and misogyny for Harris’s loss, claiming it wasn’t about policy but “cultural resentment.”
Morgan called the co-hosts “partisan obsessives.” He described the show as a “pointless, irrelevant parody” that should be put “out of its misery.”
Critics also highlighted Hostin’s October interview with Harris. She asked if Harris would have done anything differently from President Biden. “There’s not a thing that comes to mind,” Harris replied, giving critics more ammunition.
Tensions flared recently when Hostin and Griffin argued over school choice. Goldberg shut down the exchange before cutting to a commercial.
After the break, Goldberg noted the show’s strength lies in differing opinions. Joy Behar chimed in, admitting, “We’re miserable. Half of this country is miserable. Let’s just tell the truth: We hate that he won.”
Despite criticism, the show boasted strong ratings recently. A spokesperson said, “The View is an opinion-based show featuring a diverse panel of women.” The panel’s dynamic has resonated, delivering its highest-rated episode in over a decade.
