President Donald Trump’s overall approval rating has seen a significant jump to 41% in the past week, signaling that the administration’s aggressive new focus on affordability is finally resonating with voters. This positive movement is detailed in the new Reuters/Ipsos poll, which credits Republicans for warming to the President’s handling of the cost of living crisis.
The six-day poll, which closed on Monday, showed a strong three-point rise in approval from a late-November low of 38%. The jump follows a period where Democrats hammered the administration over persistently high inflation, which they used to gain ground in recent state elections.
In response, President Trump has engaged forcefully on the issue, scaling back some tariffs and pledging decisive action to combat high food prices. While Vice President JD Vance recently called the Democrat’s affordability messaging a “hoax,” the administration is clearly leaning into the issue.
The biggest shift came in the President’s popularity on the crucial Cost of Living issue: his approval rating surged from 26% to 31% overall. This increase was driven by an impressive 10-percentage-point gain among Republicans, 69% of whom now rate him favorably on the issue.
The poll also recorded a modest but important increase in support among Hispanics, a key swing group that moved toward Trump in last year’s election. The President’s approval among Hispanics is now at 34%.
