HomeNews WireMinneapolis Officials Have A Moment Of Clarity Over Anti-Police Movement Editor August 3, 2020 Last week, Minneapolis was all on board with defunding the police. In fact, the city council passed a proposal unanimously to get it on the ballot in November. But now that they're taking in the damage that has been done, and realizing that it's not going to stop, they're having second thoughts. According to Fox News, The Minneapolis Charter Commission voted earlier this week to keep a police reform proposal off of November's ballot, the Minneapolis Star-Tribune reported. The measure would have scrapped a city requirement to maintain a police force of a size based on the city's population. This was the first of two proposals going before the Charter Commission, with a more sweeping reform proposal up for a vote next week. That measure, if added to the ballot and then passed, would remove from the city's charter the requirement to have a police force. Instead, a community safety department that may not have any officers could take its place. A number of commissioners believe both proposals would be bad ideas. "I believe that if one of these measures were to pass the voters of Minneapolis, the result would be a giant self-inflicted wound,” Commissioner Dan Cohen said, according to the Star-Tribune. Cohen said that if either proposal were approved, "crime would soar, property values on our homes would fall,” and people “would flee the city." But some of the Minneapolis Libs claim that they are just not ready to abolish the police yet and may put off the vote until they are. They are still planning on slashing the Police Department budget. There have been talks about cutting about 25% of their budget of 193 million. It is a tough time to be a police officer, especially in these Liberal protester havens like Minneapolis. Yes, that officer was wrong to kneel on Floyd's neck but that doesn't mean all of society is evil and every officer is the devil. But these liberals seem to think we would be better off without police. I can't wait until they see the consequences of their actions. When they call 9-1-1 because a criminal has invaded their home or robbed their store. Maybe then they will think back about how wrong they were to want to gut the police and leave their communities nearly defenseless. They know things are bad, they even recently issued a warning to Minneapolis residents about the massive increase in crime. I can't imagine why. Trending Political News Minneapolis Police Dept.
