Miami Goes 7 Weeks Without a Murder, Longest Streak in 63 Years

According to statistics released by the Miami Police Department, the city did not report a homicide between February 17 and April 12. This was the longest streak like this since 1957.

Though social distancing definitely played a part in this, the streak started in mid-February before this began, according to Chief Jorge Colina.

Other types of crime besides murder have also dropped since social distancing has been put in place.

More on the story from Fox News:

Still, the official statistics may not be showing the full story. Colina told the New York Times that the statistics don’t account for unreported domestic violence and child abuse.

Meanwhile, the large Miami-Dade County has seen an uptick in homicides. The Miami Herald reported last Thursday a 33 percent increase in homicides in unincorporated Miami-Dade since mid-March.

As of Monday, Miami-Dade County has confirmed at least 10,926 coronavirus cases, with some 287 deaths.

It will be hard to figure out what the real impact of this pandemic is until it's over. Who knows what is really going on behind closed doors.
