McDonald’s is bringing back Extra Value Meals in an effort to appeal to budget-conscious customers. The chain announced Tuesday that the popular menu bundles, gone since 2019, will once again be available nationwide.
The lineup includes eight different meal deals, covering both breakfast and lunch favorites. Among them are the Sausage McMuffin with Egg, Sausage Egg & Cheese McGriddle, Egg McMuffin, and Bacon, Egg and Cheese Biscuit. Lunch and dinner customers can grab a Big Mac, 10-piece Chicken McNuggets, Quarter Pounder varieties, or McCrispy Sandwiches at lower prices.
Each bundle costs about 15% less than buying the items separately. McDonald’s also launched deeper discounts to kick things off, including a $5 Sausage McMuffin with Egg meal and an $8 Big Mac meal. More deals are planned for November.
The announcement followed reports that McDonald’s and its franchisees had been in lengthy talks to keep combo prices low. The strategy is aimed at addressing inflation concerns while keeping the chain competitive with rivals.
“Bringing back Extra Value Meals reflects the company and franchisees’ shared commitment to offering everyday affordable prices,” said McDonald’s owner and operator Danielle Marasco. “We’re working together to keep the menu items our customers love affordable for everyone in the communities we serve.”
McDonald’s has already been testing other approaches to value. Earlier this year, it rolled out a “McValue” menu with a “Buy One, Add One for $1” option. It also leaned on app-specific promotions, such as free fries with a $1 purchase every Friday and a free McCrispy sandwich for new app users.
Franchisees added their own specials as well, including discounted McGriddles and app-only offers like 20% off $10 or more. Together, the push signals McDonald’s plan to reestablish its role as a go-to option for affordable meals.
