White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt blasted Democrats on Monday, saying they are “completely out of touch” with voters. Speaking on Fox News, Leavitt defended the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) and called out critics for their protests.
Democrats have pushed back hard on DOGE and Elon Musk, protesting since early February. Their complaints focus on Musk’s involvement in cleaning up government waste during Trump’s second term. On “Hannity,” Sean Hannity asked Leavitt to respond to politicians like California Rep. Maxine Waters and Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren.
“I would love to, Sean,” Leavitt said. “Clearly, the Democrats learned nothing from their devastating defeat on November 5. This is exactly what the American people voted for. President Trump promised to make our government more efficient, and he campaigned alongside Elon Musk.”
Leavitt reminded viewers that Trump announced DOGE as part of his campaign. “He told everyone Elon Musk would be cutting through the waste, fraud, and abuse that’s plagued our government. No one should be surprised. The only shock is how much waste we’ve already uncovered—and we’re just getting started.”
During an X space discussion, Musk revealed his plan with Trump to overhaul the U.S. Agency for International Development. Musk said Secretary of State Marco Rubio would take control of the agency, which had been wasting billions on international programs, including left-wing social engineering.
Democrats called the move illegal. On Feb. 3, some even protested outside the Department of Treasury. Democratic New Jersey Rep. LaMonica McIver went as far as saying the Senate should be “shut down” and that they were “at war.”
“The Democrats are so incredibly out of touch,” Leavitt said. “Public polling shows 56% of Americans support President Trump’s foreign aid freeze. The latest CBS poll shows a majority supports what President Trump is doing.”
While Democrats “hoot and holler,” Leavitt said Trump’s team is focused on results. “President Trump and Elon Musk are treating this government like a business. We’re looking at every line to see what actually advances America’s interests. Everything else is just fear mongering by the left.”
A new CBS News poll showed Trump at his highest approval rating yet—53%. Even more striking, 70% of Americans believe he’s sticking to his campaign promises. Nearly half said he’s already doing more than expected. Only 9% said they expected more after just a few weeks in office.
