Las Vegas Metro Police Sheriff Kevin McMahill praised Elon Musk for aiding the investigation into the Cybertruck explosion outside Trump International Hotel. The blast injured seven people.
“I have to thank Elon Musk specifically,” McMahill said. “He gave us quite a bit of additional information in regards to how the vehicle was locked after it exploded,” he explained, adding that Tesla’s charging station data was crucial.
“He sent that directly to us, so I appreciate his help,” McMahill added.
The explosion occurred around 8:40 a.m. local time. Smoke billowed from the truck before it detonated in front of the hotel, according to police reports.
Authorities believe the incident was isolated and are working to identify the driver, who died in the explosion.
The FBI and other agencies are investigating whether terrorism was involved or if there’s a link to a truck attack in New Orleans earlier that day, which killed 15 people.
McMahill stated there’s no evidence connecting the Las Vegas incident to ISIS, despite an ISIS flag being found in the New Orleans attack vehicle.
One person died, and seven were injured in Las Vegas. McMahill noted the Cybertruck’s design contained the blast, minimizing damage.
“Elon Musk’s Cybertruck contained the explosion and directed the blast upwards. Not even the glass doors of the lobby were broken,” Musk posted on X, calling the attackers “evil knuckleheads.”
