Homeland Security Secretary Noem Taken to Hospital by Ambulance

Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem was rushed to a Washington, D.C., hospital Tuesday after suffering an allergic reaction, according to two sources familiar with the matter.

Noem, 53, is conscious and has been in communication with her security team, one source told CNN.

“Secretary Noem experienced an allergic reaction earlier today and was transported to the hospital out of an abundance of caution,” said DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin. “She is alert and recovering.”

The incident happened shortly after Noem returned from Los Angeles. She had traveled there in response to the riots that broke out following ICE raids.

While addressing reporters on June 12, Noem was interrupted mid-conference by Democratic Sen. Alex Padilla. Security quickly removed and reportedly handcuffed Padilla. DHS later criticized the senator, calling the stunt “disrespectful public theatre.”

President Donald Trump appointed Noem to lead the Department of Homeland Security after his 2024 election win. He praised her as “very strong on Border Security.”

Noem was confirmed by the Senate on January 25 with a 59-34 vote. She has since been a vocal figure in the administration’s law enforcement and immigration crackdown.
