A Chinese businessman by the name of Tan Youhui, sought to hire a hitman to get rid of one of his business rivals, Mr. Wei Mou. Youhui was willing to pay 2 million yuan ($283,000) for the hitman to do the job. The hitman that Youhui hired decided that he didn't want the dirty work of this hit, so instead of doing it himself or passing on the deal altogether, he hired another hitman to do the deed for half the original price at 1 million yuan. Here's where it gets crazy. As it turns out, the second hitman felt the same way and hired another hitman, who in turn hired a fourth hitman, who himself gave the job to a fifth hitman. Rather than doing the hit job, the last hitman told Mr. Wei Mou to just fake his death instead since by that time, the payment for the hit was so low. Wei told the police what was going on and they were all arrested and charged with attempted murder. According to Metro, The original dispute occurred in 2013, when Wei decided to sue real estate developer Youhui. Worried he would lose the lengthy court battle, Tan hired a hitman named Xi Guangan to kill Mr Wei. However, Xi contacted another hitman, Mo Tianxiang offering him half the original sum. Mo then decided to contact a third hitman, Yang Kangsheng, who quoted an upfront price of 270,000 Yuan to carry out the hit, with 500,000 Yuan to be handed over once it was done. However, Yang Kangsheng passed it on to another hitman, Yang Guangsheng, for a further reduced fee. The contract finally came to the fifth hitman, Ling Xiansi, who eventually told the police. In the end, they were all given jail time. Tan, the businessman who hired the first hitman, was sentenced to five years, while Xi, the first hitman hired was sentenced to three years and six months. Yang Kangsheng and Yang Guangsheng (the 2nd and 3rd hitmen) were sentenced to three years and three months. Mo (the 4th) was sentenced to three years, and Ling (the 5th) was sentenced to two years and seven months.
