SiriusXM host Megyn Kelly didn’t hold back on Monday. She called ABC News’ George Stephanopoulos and his team “idiots” for failing to correct his false statements about Donald Trump.
Stephanopoulos claimed Trump was “found liable for rape” during a heated interview with Republican Rep. Nancy Mace. ABC News later settled Trump’s defamation lawsuit for $15 million. Kelly slammed the network for letting it happen.
“You’re idiots! Stephanopoulos is an idiot, and so are his producers,” Kelly said. “In all my years at Fox, and even my short stint at NBC, the producers had two jobs. One, arm the anchor with facts. Two, protect the anchor.”
She explained how producers are supposed to step in. “If the anchor says something colossally stupid, they get in your ear. They say, ‘No, it’s this. Be careful,’” Kelly said. “That happens with me all the time on this show.”
“My producers constantly correct me if I misspeak or search for a fact. This is a team effort,” Kelly continued. “It’s 10 times that on a major ABC broadcast like Stephanopoulos’ show. And yet, nothing. Partisan hack!”
The March segment was intense. Stephanopoulos grilled Mace about Trump’s defamation and battery case. Mace, a rape survivor, pushed back and accused him of “shaming her.” Stephanopoulos ignored her defense.
“He’s been there a long time,” Kelly added. “But it doesn’t make him respectable. He’s a partisan hack. Always has been. He started as one and stayed one. He’s just too ballless to admit it.”
Kelly didn’t stop there. “The irony of Stephanopoulos going after a ‘rape supporter.’ After years tearing down Bill Clinton’s assault accusers? Rich,” she said. “Now, it’s cost his company $15 million and his reputation.”
In 2015, Stephanopoulos had already faced backlash. Reports revealed he donated $75,000 to the Clinton Foundation. He never disclosed it while conducting interviews about the foundation’s controversies.
