Harris’ Gen-Z “Headquarters” Relaunch Met With Widespread Mockery Over Meme Branding

Former Vice President Kamala Harris faced immediate internet turbulence this week after relaunching her campaign social media account as a new Gen-Z-led progressive hub. The X account, rebranded as “Headquarters,” initially switched its handle to a name featuring the number 67. Online critics quickly identified the number as a reference to a viral “6-7” meme currently popular with younger users.

The move was met with widespread mockery from conservative commentators who labeled the branding as desperate and out of touch. Shortly after the initial rollout, the account’s handle was changed again to a different number. “My children have informed me that ‘67’ is already old, tired, and cringe,” journalist Chris Rufo wrote in a post mocking the rebranding.

In a video accompanying the launch, Harris told viewers that the platform would be a place to meet “courageous leaders” and stay engaged with civic issues. “I’m really excited about it,” Harris said. “So stay engaged and I’ll see you out there.”

The rebranding effort has also drawn fire from within the Democratic party. Some strategists questioned the decision to use “brain rot” slang and aggressive emojis, such as a middle finger sent to the official GOP account. “The quest to feel cool on the internet has stopped some candidates from just acting normal,” Democratic strategist Matt Corridoni noted.

Despite the handle changes and the criticism, the account continues to maintain a massive following from its 2024 campaign days. It remains a partnership with the liberal group People For the American Way. The organization hopes to use the digital infrastructure to organize young voters ahead of the 2026 midterm elections.
