HomeNews WireDemocrats Lost GOP Senator They Were Hoping Would Support Impeachment Editor January 27, 2020 The Democrats have done as horrendous job presenting their case before the Senate for the impeachment of President Trump. I don't understand what their thought process was but whatever they were thinking was the wrong thing to do, because all they did was shoot themselves in the foot by insulting the Senators. They've been wanting the Senate to approve of allowing new evidence and having some witnesses, but they're offensive rhetoric is not helping them at all. Take Sen. Lisa Murkowski for example; she is known to not really be the biggest supporter of President Trump and as far as the Senate goes, she is quite a moderate as far as Republicans go. But she said she was very offended by Rep. Jerry Nadler when he accused the Republicans of being part of a cover-up. “I took it as offensive,” she told reporters. “As one who is listening attentively and working hard to get to a fair process, I was offended.” Murkowski wasn't the only one either. Senator Josh Hawley said that Democrats “took a huge step backwards.” “I mean, that’s an extraordinary thing to say on the floor of the United States Senate, the middle of the trial, and that’s what drew the rebuke and rightly so. I can tell you, there was an open, open gasping on the Senate floor when Nadler was saying these things. I mean, it’s really, really extraordinary. If the goal was to persuade, they took a huge step backward last night.” Even if they would have won her over, they never would have won enough Republicans to convict President Trump. I honestly believe that it's going to go in the opposite direction and there will be multiple Democrats who will side with the Republicans on the impeachment and vote against conviction. What a day that will be!
