HomeNews WireCollege Creates AI to Identify 'Hate Speech' – Guess Who the Worst Offenders Are Editor April 1, 2020 A new technology out of New York created by college universities is able to identify "hate speech" online by using artificial intelligence. Cornell University did a study on this and discovered that the biggest offenders when it comes to hate speech online actually comes from minorities, and not white people as the liberal media would have you believe. According to Campus Reform, A new study out of Cornell reveals that the machine learning practices behind AI, which are designed to flag offensive online content, may actually "discriminate against the groups who are often the targets of the abuse we are trying to detect," according to the study abstract. The study involved researchers training a system to flag tweets containing “hate speech,” in much the same way that other universities are developing systems for eventual online use, by using several databases of tweets, some of which had been flagged by human evaluators for offensive content. "The results show evidence of systematic racial bias in all datasets, as classifiers trained on them tend to predict that tweets written in African-American English are abusive at substantially higher rates. If these abusive language detection systems are used in the field they will, therefore, have a disproportionate negative impact on African-American social media users," the abstract continues. This is actually something that I'm very familiar with myself, and I can tell you that this doesn't just apply to online conversations either. Yes, I would say that it is more prevalent online because when people are behind a keyboard they have a sudden feeling of invincibility, that they cannot be touched and can say whatever they want. I used to work somewhere where I, as a white man, was the minority. What I often heard, especially during the election season was that President Trump was racist and so were his supporters. I would take this a little further even and suggest that it is mostly Democratic black in America. I used to work with a lot of black Democrats and they were all the same in their ideologies; they hated President Trump, they claim white people are racist, but the things they said reflected that they themselves were the ones who were being racist. They would accuse a white person of being racist just because they were white. That's literally the definition of racism; accusing someone of being one thing or another based solely on their race.
