CDC Reverses Course on Wearing Masks to Guard Against Coronavirus

Well, it seems that the Center for Disease Control is reversing course and flipping on their previous stance to not bother wearing masks in public settings to protect yourself from the coronavirus because they wouldn't be effective.

This never made sense to me because anything is better than nothing at all right?

In the beginning, they were not wanting people to bother getting masks because they knew that the general public would buy them and hoard them which would take away the availability to medical professionals who need them more than we do.

Part of that also is that most people probably think that they have some sort of complete immunity to catching the virus if they simply wear a mask which is not the case. People are dumb, don't give them too much credit.

I think that if you do get too close to someone that they shouldn't be getting close to or they accidentally reach up to touch their face, a mask would help to keep them from actually touching their face.

I've got a beard so wearing a mask isn't going to fit perfectly for me, but it's going to reduce the points of entry for a droplet that may be infected with the virus.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention will advise all Americans to wear cloth masks or other face coverings if they go out in public but President Donald Trump said the new guidelines will not be mandatory.

But the policy marks a profound change in messaging as both the CDC and World Health Organization previously said people don't need to wear masks unless they are sick.

The new guidance has not been officially announced but it is in the works, according to multiple reports, which comes as more than 1 million people globally have been infected with the coronavirus.

President Trump had this to say during press briefing on Thursday.

"I think they're going to be coming out with the regulations on that."

"I don't think it will be mandatory because some people don't want to do that, but if people wanted to wear them, they can. People wanted to use scarves, which they have that many people have of them, they can. In many cases, the scarf is better, it's thicker. Depending on the material, it's thicker. But they couldn't do that if they want. The recommendation is coming out and we'll see what that recommendation is but I will say this, they can pretty much decide for themselves right now."
