Vice President Kamala Harris’ support for a bail fund for Black Lives Matter protesters is causing concern among law enforcement.
“Let’s be clear: If Kamala Harris becomes president, she will be a disaster for public safety,” said Joe Gamaldi, vice president of the Fraternal Order of Police.
“She supported bail reform and even donated to a fund that helped get violent criminals out on bail,” he continued. “We’re not talking about petty theft; we’re talking about violent crimes.”
Gamaldi argued that bail reform has failed in urban communities.
“It led to 16 American cities experiencing the highest murder rates in 2020-2021,” he said. “We’re still dealing with the consequences.”
“Over the last three years, we’ve averaged over 20,000 homicides a year,” he added. “Harris is running on a platform supporting bail reform despite its horrific consequences.”
Joseph Imperatrice, an NYPD detective, echoed these sentiments.
“America needs a president who will put the bad guys behind bars,” he said. “Kamala Harris hasn’t done that.”
“This isn’t a Democrat or Republican issue, it’s a humanitarian and accountability issue,” he added.
Imperatrice pointed out Harris’ track record in California.
“She had a mix of soft-on-crime policies,” he said. “But lately, she’s been pandering to the left and activists.”
“She’s not the prosecutor we once knew,” he continued. “Now, she’s helping bad guys get out of jail.”
Charles “Cully” Stimson, a senior legal fellow at the Heritage Foundation, also criticized Harris.
“Harris uses the same language as politicians who called for defunding the police,” he said.
“The media calls her the cop candidate, but she’s anti-cop,” he added.
Stimson explained that reimagining the criminal justice system is code for being pro-criminal.
“Reimagine means pro-criminal,” he said. “Look at the policies of district attorneys like Gascon and Krasner.”
He highlighted Harris’ support for defunding the LAPD by $150 million in 2020.
“When she applauds defunding the police, it’s defending,” he said. “Taking $150 million away is defunding.”
Harris promoted the Minnesota Freedom Fund in June 2020 to bail out Black Lives Matter rioters.
But only a fraction of the $41 million raised went to freeing rioters.
FOX 9 reported that the fund freed an alleged knife murderer and a convicted rapist.
Another beneficiary, George Howard, allegedly committed a road rage shooting weeks after being bailed out.
The Minnesota Freedom Fund admitted to its role in Howard’s release.
“We believe everyone is innocent until proven guilty,” the group wrote. “If a judge deems them eligible for bail, they shouldn’t wait in jail just because they lack resources.”
Now the presumptive Democrat presidential nominee, Harris is choosing a vice president, likely from a group of Midwest governors.
