Are We Headed For War? Here's Why the Recent Cyber Attack is A Modern Day Pearl Harbor

I'm sure that you're all aware of it by now, but we recently learned of a massive cyberattack carried out against the United States by a foreign entity.

You may have heard that the attack was on the U.S. Treasury Department and Commerce Department, but this cyberattack went well beyond just that.

This is bad guys…really bad.

Russia had access to things that are completely top-secret level security. They've been accessing our top government systems for at least half a year and even accessed the network which maintained our nuclear missile stockpile.

Senator Dick Durbin said, "We can’t be buddies with Vladimir Putin and have him at the same time making this kind of cyberattack on America. This is virtually a declaration of war by Russia on the United States, and we should take it that seriously." He also stated that there will be a price to pay.

Joe Biden also promised a tough response, saying in a statement: "Our adversaries should know that, as president, I will not stand idly by in the face of cyber assaults on our nation."

In addition to the Treasury and the Commerce Department’s National Telecommunications and Information Administration, government intelligence officials fear the hackers may have gotten into the records of other federal agencies, Reuters reported, citing three anonymous sources briefed on the matter.

“This is a huge cyber espionage campaign targeting the U.S. government and its interests,” one source told the wire service.

The FBI is investigating the breaches by a group working for the Russian Foreign intelligence service, SVR, according to The Washington Post.

The group, known as APT29 or Cozy Bear, was also behind a hack of the White House and State Department during the Obama administration, the report said.

It’s not clear exactly what information was accessed during the more recent hacks. But the cyber break-ins appeared so serious that the National Security Council met at the White House to discuss it on Saturday, sources told Reuters.

Officials: Man Dressed As Santa Tried Passing Out Candy While Flying, Got Caught In Power Lines

A man dressed as Santa Claus got snared on a trip through a Northern California city Sunday morning after flying his glider-type craft into a neighborhood’s power lines.

The man, who was not identified, purportedly took off from Rio Linda, California — on what officials initially believed was a hang glider but later said was a “hyper light” — with the goal of giving out candy from mid-air when he got tangled up in the electrical grid, according to the Sacramento Metropolitan Fire Department. He was not injured in the incident.
