Poll Shows Where Americans Stand on Pardoning of Hunter Biden

President Biden’s decision to pardon his son Hunter has only 20% of Americans’ approval, a new poll revealed. The move contradicts his previous vow not to give Hunter a pass.

The Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research poll found about half of Americans disapprove of the pardon. This followed Hunter’s conviction on felony gun and tax charges.

Approximately 18% of respondents said they neither approved nor disapproved. Another 8% said they didn’t know enough to form an opinion.

Democrats were more supportive of the pardon than Republicans or independents. Still, only 38% of Democrats approved, while 27% disapproved.

On the other hand, 80% of Republicans and 51% of independents voiced disapproval, according to the poll.

Biden issued the pardon on Dec. 1, despite previously promising not to if Hunter was convicted. The decision sparked controversy across political lines.

Earlier this year, Hunter faced two federal convictions. He pleaded guilty to tax charges in September and was convicted of three gun-related felonies in June. He had lied on a gun purchase form about drug use.

The president defended his decision, claiming Hunter was “singled out only because he is my son.” He added that efforts to “break Hunter” were meant to target him personally.

White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre faced tough questions after the pardon. She insisted, “One thing the president believes is to always be truthful with the American people,” repeatedly referencing Biden’s statement.
