Joe Rogan warned this week that a Kamala Harris presidency could tighten control on online speech.
“I don’t think it turns around if Kamala Harris gets into office,” Rogan said. “I think they clamp down more.” He believes they’d try to control other platforms, similar to attempts made with Twitter.
Elon Musk shared a clip of Rogan’s remarks on X, agreeing by saying, “Joe Rogan is absolutely right.”
Rogan’s comments came during an episode with former Navy SEAL and CIA contractor Shawn Ryan. The conversation was about social media censorship.
Rogan pointed out some concerning statements from Harris’s camp. He mentioned Tim Walz claiming the First Amendment doesn’t cover misinformation.
Walz, in a 2022 interview, said there’s no free speech guarantee for misinformation or hate speech, especially in matters of democracy. He emphasized telling the truth about voting.
Rogan disagreed, saying the First Amendment allows for corrections when someone says something wrong.
Ryan added, “The misinformation — it’s all opinion.” Rogan then highlighted censorship during COVID, mentioning the controversy over masks. “Guess what? They don’t f—ing work,” he said.
