New Hampshire Gov. Chris Sununu sprang into action on Sunday. He saved a man who began choking during a lobster roll eating contest.
Sununu was at the Hampton Beach Lobster Roll Eating Competition in Hampton, New Hampshire. One contestant on the end of the stage started pounding his chest while eating the famous New England dish.
“The gentleman at the far end, who I was kind of watching — I glanced over, I could tell very quickly, he took, took a pause — he was having trouble getting something down,” Sununu told WMUR-TV.
The contestant, Christian Moreno, said the governor was the first to notice. “My counter came up to me and made a joke,” Moreno said. “‘Oh, like, I bet nobody else can say they’ve gotten the Heimlich from the governor before.’ And I was like, that was the governor?”
The Republican governor found the whole experience “wild.” He jumped in while the contest was still going, helping Moreno in time.
But what happened next was even crazier. “He went right back to the contest, which I couldn’t believe,” Sununu said.
Moreno wasn’t done. “He ate another seven lobster rolls after that,” Sununu added. “Right down the gullet.”
