Republican vice presidential candidate JD Vance urged Americans not to trust Kamala Harris’ policy positions during her first interview since launching her 2024 bid. Critics accuse her of “flip-flopping” on key issues.
Vance criticized Harris on “Fox & Friends” after her CNN interview. He claimed she’s only pretending to be moderate to win votes ahead of November.
“Don’t buy it,” Vance warned. “Kamala Harris has governed from the far left. Now, she’s pretending otherwise to win votes. But if elected, she’ll go back to her old ways.”
He accused Harris of shifting positions and warned that her presidency would lead to higher living costs, an open border, and a more dangerous world.
“It’s absurd for her to claim she’s changed,” Vance said. “She’s governed as a far-left leader, and America has suffered because of it.”
This interview was Harris’ first in 39 days since becoming the presumptive nominee. She has mostly avoided the media since joining the Democratic ticket, rarely answering questions and holding no press conferences.
Harris spoke with CNN’s Dana Bash in a pre-taped interview that aired Thursday. She insisted her “values have not changed,” despite criticism.
“If her values haven’t changed, why has she changed her stance on every major issue?” Vance asked.
Vance argued she should face tough questions about her shifting positions. “She answered one question yesterday, but it was a word salad. It didn’t give Americans any real insight,” he added.
Vance also accused the press of enabling Harris, claiming they avoid pressing her on her changing views.
“The media lets her off the hook,” Vance said. “She claims to have changed her mind on energy, police, immigration, but where are the results? If she truly changed, why aren’t we seeing these new policies?”
Vance admitted feeling “bad” for Harris after the interview, suggesting she seemed unsure of her own positions.
“It’s clear she lacks strong convictions,” Vance said. “Even though I’m running against her, I felt a bit sorry for her. She didn’t seem sure of what she was saying. She’s been coached to appear moderate.”
“Unfortunately, she’s governed as a San Francisco liberal,” he continued. “America is poorer, the world is more chaotic, and our border is wide open because of it. We need a new direction, and that’s why we need to elect Donald Trump.”
