Anti-Israel agitators disrupted Stephen Colbert’s interview with Nancy Pelosi. As Pelosi discussed Biden, Harris, and the DNC, shouting broke out from the audience. Colbert acknowledged the protest, saying, “There’s a protest going on in the audience.” He informed everyone they were on a commercial break and would return to the subject after.
Protests have been ongoing outside the DNC all week. Chicago prepared with a heavy police presence and fencing around the event center.
When they returned, Colbert shifted to U.S. power overseas. He noted the protests and asked Pelosi about the U.S. role in the Israel-Palestine conflict. Pelosi highlighted Biden’s foreign policy experience and reiterated the U.S. commitment to Israel.
She mentioned Israel’s agreement to a ceasefire, hoping Hamas would too, and emphasized, “war has no role in a civilized society.”
The protesters interrupted again, echoing Pelosi’s words back at her. Colbert asked Pelosi if she wanted to respond. She pushed for a two-state solution as the protesters grew louder.
Colbert asked them not to interrupt, then wrapped up, inviting Pelosi to return. He reminded viewers that his show, usually in New York, was being hosted from Chicago this week for the DNC.
