Governor Ron DeSantis told Sean Hannity that Florida’s historic 1.4 million Republican voter registration lead is the direct result of aggressive conservative leadership. During the Hang Out with Sean Hannity podcast, DeSantis argued that the state has become a refuge for Americans escaping spendthrift governments in blue states. He highlighted Florida’s 50-year low crime rate and top-tier education rankings as proof that the model is working.
“Regardless of running or anything, we will be able to show that conservatism works,” DeSantis said during the interview. He noted that when leadership is unapologetic and covers every issue, it produces historic results that people want to be a part of. This success has led to an influx of more than $4 million in wealth migrating to the Sunshine State every single hour.
The Governor contrasted Florida’s fiscal discipline with the budget crises currently facing states like New York and California. Despite having 4 million more residents than New York, Florida’s annual state budget is typically half the size of the Empire State’s. DeSantis warned that the problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people’s money.
The state is also actively poaching police officers from blue cities by offering financial incentives and a culture of support. DeSantis mentioned that officers from cities like Chicago are fleeing mayors who demagogue them in favor of a state where people have their back. “And guess what? We have a 50-year low on our crime rate,” he added.
Business titans are also making the move, with DeSantis citing Charles Schwab’s relocation from San Francisco as a prime example. Schwab reportedly told the Governor that moving to Florida was the best decision he ever made. Lawmakers are now working on fast-tracking plans that could eventually provide a path to zero property tax for residents.
Voter registration data continues to reflect this massive shift in the state’s political landscape. DeSantis pointed out that Democrats had a 300,000-voter lead when he first ran in 2018, a lead that has since been obliterated. “We’ve never seen a shift like that ever in modern American history,” he concluded.
