White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt made waves on Wednesday by confirming that President Donald Trump wants every Somali convicted of fraud in Minnesota to lose their U.S. citizenship. This follows calls from House Majority Whip Tom Emmer for the denaturalization and deportation of those who exploit American social services.
When asked on “Fox & Friends” if the president wants those citizenships revoked, Leavitt answered, “Absolutely. And it’s something the Department of Homeland Security, the Department of State is currently looking at right now. It’s something this administration has already done. And we know that there are liberal activist judges across the country who will try to block and tackle this administration from pursuing justice at every turn.”
Leavitt emphasized that the administration remains undeterred by legal challenges from the left. She stated, “But that’s not going to stop the president and his entire cabinet by acting on behalf of law-abiding, tax-paying citizens in the state of Minnesota and in states across the country who have been ripped off by people who abused our immigration system, came to our country, do not love our country or respect our values, and now have been ripping off and stealing money from law-abiding Americans. This administration is not going to tolerate it.”
The crackdown follows investigations into the potential theft of over $9 billion from federal programs in Minnesota. Federal prosecutors have already charged dozens of individuals, many from the Somali American community, for their roles in a massive nutrition program scam.
Recent documentaries have further fueled the fire by alleging that some taxpayer-funded daycare centers are providing no actual services. One facility reportedly received $4 million in state funding despite appearing inactive when visited by independent investigators.
